Indice d’abondance des aloses

Catherine et Philippe Boisneau sont à l’origine du premier suivi scientifique des géniteurs d’alose en Loire moyenne, en analysant les captures au filet-barrage, technique de pêche endémique à la Loire, désormais en voie de disparition (un seul pêcheur installe encore un filet-barrage, dans la région de Saumur).

Ainsi, depuis 1984, en plus de l’évolution des CPUE (Captures Par Unité d’Effort), les données biométriques (longueur, masse, espèce) et les prélèvements d’écailles pour l’ageage viennent compléter les outils de constitution de l’indice annuel d’abondance relative des cohortes.

La mise à disposition de cet indice auprès des services gestionnaires, dont la chronique est ininterrompue tant bien que mal depuis 1984, enrichit les réflexions sur les mesures à retenir dans les différents plans de gestion.

Les 35 années de suivi permettent ainsi de relever 3 grandes périodes. De 1980 à 1997, l’indice présente un niveau faible (0.21) où l’abondance est étroitement liée aux fortes variations de débits, permettant en effet aux géniteurs de franchir les barrages.

En 1998, le barrage de Maisons-Rouges, alors premier obstacle à la continuité écologique sur la Vienne, est arrasé grâce à la mobilisation de nombreux acteurs et le Plan Loire Grandeur Nature. Dès lors, l’abondance est multipliée par 4 (0.93) et est davantage corrélée aux simples variations de débits.

En 2006 intervient la 3ème et dernière phase, pour l’instant, de l’évolution de l’indice. Présentant des valeurs plus faibles (0.39), il reste toutefois deux fois plus important qu’avant 1997. Aucune corrélation n’est en revanche observée avec les effectifs de pêcheurs professionnels qui accusent une diminution lente et progressive.

Un suivi de la dévalaison des juvéniles d’alose est également mené en Loire moyenne.

Il a permis d’enrichir les connaissances sur ce stade peu suivi, notamment sur le régime alimentaire, l’évolution des caractères biométriques au cours d’une saison de dévalaison ou les périodes de migration.

Précisément, en lien avec le changement climatique, les dates de plus en plus précoces des premières observations de juvéniles chaque année de suivi mettent en avant l’impact du réchauffement de l’eau, associé à la réduction des débits printaniers.
